An action movie is usually consist of one or more protagonists fighting an evil that seems unbeatable until the end of the movie where the good guys end up on top. This type of film is almost always shot with fast pace shots and many different action scenes that have explosions and chases. The unique thing about action films is that when marketing the movie instead of marketing the plot they usually cast a big name actor and focus the marketing around the person or people in the movie. This genre is also heavily marketed for young adults and people in their mid 30s.
A good first example of an action movie would be the Mission Impossible series. Throughout the movies you see the same formula repeated in all of the movies. Tom Cruise is always in a position of confusion and has to solve the puzzle that eventually becomes a plot twist while fighting everyone he encounters. The shots are usually very short throughout every movie and the marketing of those movies always focuses on Tom Cruise being in another Mission Impossible and performing his own stunts.
Another example would be The Fast and the Furious movies. These movies follow the same structure as Mission Impossible but instead of marketing only one major star they like to cast more and more stars to join the cast. A newer member to the series would be Dwayne Johnson who is alongside Vin Diesel many different car chase and explosion scenes. All of these movies go based on the mentality that “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
